How to have YOGA at your FINGERTIPS – everywhere and anytime…

MUDRAS are simple gestures performed using your hans and fingers that act as energetic seals or locks in your body. There are various styles of Mudras – each one representing a different divine principle of the Indian philosophy and each one offering unique benefits for body, mind and soul.

In Yoga, we often apply mudras in combination with pranayama to first stimulate the flow of life force prana throughout the body and then to lock this energy within for a moment.

Today, let’s take a closer look at the GYAN MUDRA, also known as the CHIN MUDRA. Having its roots in the Sanskrit word chin meaning consciousness, it is one of the most commonly applied mudras, especially during MEDITATION. Performing this mudra helps you to connect to your inner self and promotes a highted state of consciousness. The index finger represents your individual consciousness while the thumb finger represents the universal consciousness – when you connect both of them, you transcend the limits of your own self and connect with the all-encompassing universal WE.

To perform the chin mudra, bring the tips of the thumb and index fingers together and form a circle while being seated in a comfortable position on your mat or the floor. Keep the remaining three fingers stretched and the palm facing upward.

Hopefully, this little introduction to the beautiful CHIN MUDRA inspried you to give this simple practice a try tonight – SIDE EFFECTS may include a deep and restful SLEEP !
